DeWitt Carter School is one of 6 elementary public schools in the city of Port Colborne, Ontario. It is an old two storey building with 15 classrooms. This year only 10 classrooms were in use with about 220 students. Three of the vacant rooms are used by outside agencies such as daycare and pre school parent and child group. It is located on the east side of the Welland Canal. The boundaries include mainly "downtown core" area with a few subdivisions and a few rural settings.

We have a special education class at the school and several of our children are on modified programs. We have a part time Learning Resource Teacher. The school makes extensive use of the various social agencies in the community. Alot of the staff is experienced in special education which proves to be an asset to DeWitt Carter.

The school offers a breakfast program staffed by teachers and community volunteers. There are only a few children who require bus service but the majority of kids stay at school for lunch.

Sports activities are provided for the students- intermural at lunch and school teams after school.
